Microsoft will be offering an exclusive preview of its latest release, Interflow – a cyber security data exchange platform designed for industry professionals.
The aim of the project – now in the development stage for one and a half years – is to utilise industry specifications in creating a machine-readable, automated, cyber security and threat data feed.
Trustworthy Computing Director, Tim Rains says that by providing support to open specifications, it will enable Interflow to work with current analytical and operational tools that a number of companies use via a plug-in architecture.
He feels that it could potentially help to cut defence costs by automating a system that presently relies on manual input.
Malware analyst Mark Graham said that the news is a positive for the industry. He commented:
“With the pluggable architecture, the piecemeal data exchange that has held the community together until now has a real chance of becoming iron-clad, evolving from the level of shared trust between individual researchers into a collaborative agreement that spans entire organisations.”
Exchange of data could be invaluable among cyber professionals. It is a practice, in the light of recent data breaches, that is taking on an increasingly important role within the corporate agenda. SMEs without cyber security personnel are leaving themselves open to all sorts of dangers. Fortunately, many businesses are taking their IT security recruitment processes more seriously and are hiring the necessary staff to counter any potential attacks to their systems and operating base.
