An entire module of the University of Warwick’s cyber security Master’s degree is dedicated to those key info security issues which affect today’s CISOs. IBM contributed to the development of the module, which aims to address a shortage of those with specialist cyber security abilities.
The tech giant said that the issue is one of the most significant that is facing businesses seeking to keep their business systems safe from a cyber attack.
IBM and Warwick’s WMG Cyber Security Centre team are addressing the skills gap with the business-focused module in Enterprise Cyber Security. The module was launched in May this year and is included in the University of Warwick’s MSc in Cyber Security and Management.
IBM UK and Ireland systems integration practice and consulting leader Mark Buckwell played a key role in developing the content for the module. He said:
“The Enterprise Cyber Security module was created to give students the opportunity to engage in architectural thinking in the design of enterprise IT security. By understanding how security is designed into core business practice, participants now have a vital kit bag of practical tools and techniques to apply in the workplace.”
Such a skills shortage is potentially harmful to organisations not only of tomorrow, but today. Fortunately, organisations such as IBM and the University of Warwick have recognised the issue and are doing what they can to address it.
In the meantime, businesses in the UK need to do what they can do to protect their own systems and data by bolstering their IT security recruitment drive to ensure they have the best cyber talent on board.
