Security firm Okta has conducted research claiming that businesses lax in upgrading technology are at a higher risk when it comes to cyber threats.
Okta claimed that although most companies believe that the latest and greatest technology is crucial to productivity, there are many that are having difficulty in being able to upgrade as a result of traditional onsite security barriers.
The research revealed that omitting to upgrade security technology is putting businesses at risk. Specifically, 65% of those surveyed believes that a breach will occur over the following 12 months should they fail to upgrade legacy security tools quickly enough
Simon Moffatt from software company ForgeRock, said:
“I think it’s true that companies need to take a much more proactive stance with respect to cyber-security, by having the necessary technological, legal, public relations and customer service response plans in place, for when and not if, a large breach occurs.”
The data from the research is shown inside Okta’s new Secure Business Agility report, based on findings from 300 security and IT professionals.
Businesses should take notice of this report as cyber criminals aren’t quite as lax when it comes to technology. Employing the latest in tech, as well as knowledge in general, is what enables them to steal data from firms up and down the UK. If these firms take heed of Okta’s report, they will be less prone to an attack. That is also the case if they hire those in the know and take on more IT security professionals capable of using this new technology.
