UK job postings for individuals with Internet of Things (IoT) related skills have risen by 70% within the last 12 months.
Further, demand for these skills in IT job rankings jumped 120 places, and there were significant increases in other areas, too.
Security software vendor Gemalto observed an increased demand for professionals with learned skills in data analytics, artificial intelligence, and Big Data. There has been a 73% increase in cyber security jobs within the last year, its research says.
Businesses are seeking professionals in constructing security architecture; a statistic that increased by 43%. The security engineers figure also rose by 9%.
Climbing 12 places on the desired attributes rankings is Big Data. Permanent jobs requiring data analytics climbed 62 places (a 15% increase).
Gemalto’s VP for IoT, Nicholas Chalvin, said:
“Given the growth in demand for IoT knowledge, it’s encouraging to see demand for cyber-security skills also on the increase – showing that organisations appreciate the need to secure the data they collect. As more IoT projects go live, keeping these secure is vital to ensuring consumer confidence in their usage, protecting confidential data and making them a success.”
It is perhaps no surprise that IT security recruitment is on the rise, in light of a number of cyber attacks making mainstream news in recent years. By employing one or more cyber professionals, an owner is providing their company with a much-needed layer of business protection that could prove crucial in the current climate.
