A new partnership of tech firms, which includes Twitter and Uber, has been established to work together on IT security practices and issues.
The Vendor Security Alliance will be looking at the IT security risk in a firm’s business partners, which is an increasing concern in IT security.
The Alliance will be working with some of the finest security experts available, and an annual questionnaire will be released by compliance officers to provide a benchmark for risk. The survey will offer an assessment applicable to numerous industries.
Businesses can use the results of the survey to assess vendors and confirm that sufficient security is in place.
The coalition’s founding members are made up of Airbnb, GoDaddy, Atlassian, Square, Twitter, Palantir, Dropbox, Docker, and Uber.
Skyhigh Networks CEO Rajiv Gupta spoke about the coalition, saying:
“Vendor vulnerability merits much more attention than it has received, even in the wake of egregious breaches like that of Target, which were enabled via trusted connections with third-party vendors.
“Evaluating vendors is one part of the equation, but it is just as important to be able to actually enforce policies to prevent data from being shared with high-risk partners.”
For most businesses, it’s more of a case of them assessing their own cyber security procedures. Too many firms are still failing to implement sufficient defence against cyber threats. The most fundamental decision to be made is to fill cyber security jobs and ensure that they have the talent and knowledge on board to fend off such threats.
