Cutting-edge firms with an involvement in manufacturing, gaming and cyber security recently revealed the up-and-coming trends influencing their sectors during a University of West London event on knowledge sharing.
The latest ‘Computing Industry Consultative Committee Meeting’ gave the School of Computing and Engineering (SCE) some insight into the most in-demand skills required from the next wave of digital talent.
Representatives from here at Acumin Consulting were present, alongside those from the likes of Birst, Lombard Street Research, Enterprise Services PLC, Fujitsu, and Sega.
Our Operations Director, Chris Batten, found that behavioural analytics (the prediction of future events that takes likely behaviour into account) is in demand.
Lombard Street Research’s Rafael Narezzi said that graduates skilled in artificial intelligence or machine learning are required due to the growing volumes of data and the need for it to be analysed. He said that these skills are especially necessary in threat analysis, an area that tries to find security threats prior to them taking effect.
The Head of the SCE School, Professor Amir Alani, said:
“This event is always fascinating, and the School is very grateful to these organisations for sharing with us the priority skills which they value so much. This knowledge helps us to create courses which are valued by employers and provide graduates with a strong foundation for a successful career in computing.”
Businesses up and down the UK would be wise to pay attention to the study, as it will indicate which skills their human resources departments should be looking for to keep pace with their competition. IT security jobs have proven to be very much in demand, and this discussion certainly suggests that the trend is only likely to increase.
