The leading cyber security professionals in the UK are set to begin an eight-week intensive training programme in Sans UK Cyber Academy’s inaugural intake.
The Sans Institute believes that the combination of cyber enthusiasts, military leavers, professionals, and recent graduates comprise the best security talent in the UK.
The applicants, selected from a 24,000-strong talent pool, were chosen after taking a skills evaluation, along with a number of interviews.
The group includes 21 professionals from related technical sectors, and 7 recent graduates looking to enter cyber security. Added to that are four professionals from other sectors and two Cyber Security Challenge UK finalists.
Sans Institute is offering to showcase student profiles to potential suitors on request.
Alex Holland, one of the selected candidates and also a law student, believes that there are a number of disciplines in cyber security. He said:
“Understanding the legal and policy as well as the technical aspects of the field is vital.”
The training will include forensic computing and legal compliance, which will allow Holland to pursue his interests in law and cyber security with his computing hobby.
He added:
“If you are new to the cyber security industry, it is difficult to know how to reach employers, so this initiative is a fantastic opportunity and a great way to address the cyber skills gap.”
Each of the trainees will no doubt be looking for vacant cyber security jobs both throughout and after the programme, which may prick the ears of potential recruiters
