In a bid to fight cyber crime, Rolls-Royce, BT, Airbus and Deloitte will offer their knowledge to those studying the new MSc in Cyber Security at De Montfort University Leicester, designed to develop holistic methods of carrying out cyber security measures.
The companies offering their assistance with the course will offer module expertise and guest lectures, in addition to providing students with a chance to go on placements.
Cyber breaches are showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to costing time and money to UK organisations. An alarming 90% of larger organisations, as well as 74% of small firms have been affected, says a new study from professional services network PwC.
There has also been a year-on-year increase of average cost to businesses. The cost of breaches to large organisations range from £75,200 to approximately £310,800. Infiltration and hacks have become all too common and a number of large organisations have lost significant volumes of data records on customers, which include 145 million records from eBay’s customer database, 76 million JP Morgan Chase records and 37 million Ashley Madison records.
Cyber security is an area, in the modern climate, where training is sorely needed. With a new generation of cyber talent set to benefit from the course, it only goes to follow that UK SMEs will ultimately be benefitting also, by opening information security jobs to graduates and providing their customers with a higher level of data security.
