The Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) is providing a brand new service with cyber security guidance and advice.
The offering will see the Care Computing Emergency Response Team aiming to enhance cyber resilience in the health and social care sector. It is just one phase in a launch expected to begin this autumn. The service, which acquired its funding from the National Cyber Security Programme, is set to officially launch in January.
CareCERT will provide expertise in cyber security incident response, as well as with wider cyber threats posed to the sector. Further, it will inform other organisations of potential threats, with advice on how to handle them.
HSCIC assurance services and operations director, Rob Shaw, said that there is an abundance of first-rate technical expertise in the organisation, including in the field of cyber security, and that this can be used to help other groups within the sector.
He said:
“CareCERT will be a valuable resource for the health and social care sector, providing best practice guidance to support organisations to keep their information safe and secure. The service will monitor for system wide threats and will then ensure that appropriate actions are developed, supporting continued security across the sector.”
Cyber security expertise will prepare the health and care sector for potential threats and help to increase the safety of highly sensitive data within the health system. It would certainly help other sectors to keep an eye on this development and ask themselves if they are doing enough with their IT security recruitment strategy.
