Cyber security staff in the UK are experiencing well over average rises in their salaries, found one survey.
Morgan McKinley’s Salary Survey for 2014 revealed that the amount being earned by information security staff, at all experience levels, is increasing much faster than that of average pay in the UK.
The company also found that salaries earned by professionals in new jobs based in the capital – not limited to cyber security employees – are presently increasing at close to 19 per cent, while the average UK salary is increasing at only one per cent.
Cem Baris, the associate director of IT for Morgan McKinley, said:
“We have seen an increase in demand for highly skilled IT professionals in almost every sub-sector. Cyber-security – with dominant program requirements being Hadoop, Python and R – big data, business intelligence and application development are all in high demand.”
Baris went on to say that one factor driving the above-average salary increases lies in the current skills shortage. He pointed out that there are an insufficient number of professionals at the required skill level to cater for the increasing demand.
To be safe in this cyber age, companies in all industries need to fill cyber security jobs, whether that means paying a high salary or not. In an age where cybercrime is prevalent, it will likely save them in the long run, if not sooner. This is, of course, is not bad news at all for the UK’s cyber professionals.
