Jamie Oliver’s website was attacked by cyber criminals who reportedly infected it with a malicious script.
Security researchers from Malwarebytes discovered the code secretly planted on the site. They claim that it may well be a legitimate code with added content.
Speaking further about their findings, they said that the hack probably occurred due to a compromised plugin or login details.
When fans of the TV chef visited the website, they were taken to a compromised page. The cyber criminals would then attempt to insert a trojan onto the user’s PC so that they could hijack it before redirecting search results.
Jérôme Segura, a cyber security expert, said:
“It all started with a compromised JavaScript hosted on jamieoliver.com. It could be a legitimate script that has been injected with additional content or a rogue script altogether. The webmasters will need to look for additional evidence of infection, rather than simply restore or delete the offending script.”
The site webmasters are clued in on the cyber attack and are looking into it further. Any malicious content found on the site has now been removed. Jamieoliver.com reportedly attracts 10m visitors a month.
Fans of Oliver may not be quite so keen to read his latest news online if they were affected by the security issue. Unfortunately, that is the kind of long-term effect hackers can have on fans and customers of celebrities and businesses. It is so important, for any individual and business trying to gain an online presence, that they make their website as secure as possible. By opening cyber security jobs, businesses would be doing all they can to achieve online security and long-term customer satisfaction.
