The Cyber Security Early Stage Accelerator Programme will provide support and guidance to security startup firms, announced the government.
The initiative will be co-run with Cyber London and the Centre for Secure Information Technologies at Queen’s University Belfast. It has secured £250,000 in funding from the Early Stage Accelerator Programme and will be available to applicants in March.
The aim of the initiative is to boost the number of UK security startup firms, validate new ideas from leading security companies and offer support to security entrepreneurs.
The government said that the financing will back ideas that would otherwise find it difficult to gain funding due to being undeveloped.
Secretary of state for culture, media and sport, John Whittingdale, said that our strong digital economy is affecting how we live our lives on a daily basis.
He added:
“As technologies continue to evolve there will be an increased demand for secure products and services, and this new programme will ensure that the best ideas from our brightest minds can help keep the UK safe in cyber space. I’m delighted to announce Cyber London and CSIT Belfast as partners in running this new programme.”
The government is putting so much emphasis on cyber security in order to protect the future of UK firms and the data they hold on their customers. Existing companies should also be doing everything they can to ensure that they are not susceptible to hackers by making IT security jobs available to those trained in cyber crime.
