A government-supported UK Cyber Demonstration Centre has been launched in London, with support from a newly-designed web portal that enables businesses to showcase their skills. They have both been financed by Cabinet Office’s National Cyber Security Programme.
Users are able to locate products or services through the Cyber Growth Partnership (CGP) Exchange, which incorporates a cyber map of the UK displaying more than 900 specialist companies.
The CGP Exchange and the newly formed Centre will aim to aim to expand and develop the UK IT security industry, both domestically and globally. Firms can log in on the website and update content, as well as offer information on any services that they offer.
The two schemes were launched by Minister for the Digital Economy in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Ed Vaizey, and Minister for Trade and Investment in UKTI, Lord Maude. The aim was to promote the UK’s IT security industry, valued at £17bn, according to the government.
Maude said:
“I am delighted that companies in the cyber-sector have a facility to demonstrate products to foreign clients and partners. It is important that we can offer them not only this facility but also the advice and support they need to export their technology.”
The IT security industry is being given a lot of attention by the government, but it needs UK businesses to follow suit and secure their own operations. We need to see more IT security jobs available to those with the necessary skills to make these businesses, and UK data as a whole, more secure.
