President-elect Donald Trump has announced that friend and one-time mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani, will take up a permanent spot at the White House in the most sought after cyber security job of all.
Giuliani, who also holds the position of VP on Trump’s transition team, will act as a cyber security consultant to the incoming President on anything related to IT security within the private sector. Trump intends to hold meetings with corporations to discuss cyber breaches and ways to combat them.
A member of Trump’s team said in a statement:
“Mr Giuliani was asked to initiate this process because of his long and very successful government career in law enforcement and his now sixteen years of work providing security solutions in the private sector.”
The ex-mayor, who had made his name from cracking down on drug use and violent crime, is the chairman of security company Greenberg Traurig, as well as Giuliani Partners, a global security company.
Giuliani last month took himself out of the picture when President-elect Trump was assembling his cabinet. Previously, he was regarded as being among the favourites for secretary of state. ExxonMobil oil tycoon, Rex Tillerson was eventually chosen to fill that position.
Giuliani said at the time:
“This is not about me; it is about what is best for the country and the new administration.”
He added that before he became involved in the campaign, he was working hard in both his consulting and law firms and will continue working in that capacity with even greater enthusiasm.
