The government has joined forces with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development to offer free e-learning education to HR professionals. The aim is to put them in a better position to deal with cyber threats to their company.
CIPD launched the ‘Cyber Security For HR professionals’ training, and the government funded it. The scheme comes under the Whitehall plan for professionals in HR, which is to see them carry an influence over cyber security within the workplace.
Minister for Culture and Digital Economy, Ed Vaizey, launched the training in early February under the government-run National Cyber Security Programme.
Professionals in HR will be given information on how to maintain protection of sensitive data, and how they can educate their colleagues on data security risks.
They will further be educated in creating a caring culture that will decrease the risk factor within the company.
CIPD chief executive Peter Cheese, said:
“Organisations need to think much more broadly and consider how they are equipping their employees with the knowledge and understanding they need to help to protect their organisation and its data.
“While risk is fundamentally down to how people make decisions and judgements, businesses can still be left exposed.”
The training that HR will receive on the scheme will certainly be beneficial to their companies, but HR professionals will still rank far behind cyber security experts when it comes to protecting their firm’s data. Whether a company benefits from this scheme or not, it would be foolish to neglect its IT security recruitment campaign if it has any serious ambitions to protect company data.
