A new survey has shown that most organisations around the world fail to possess sufficient resources designed to respond to a cyber breach.
In the survey, carried out by Oregon-based software firm Tripwire, 75% of respondents conceded that their level of business protection may not be adequate in that they do not have enough security professionals to deal with a breach.
Tripwire asked 500 cyber security professionals questions about the main challenges their businesses are facing with regards to compliance programmes and cyber security in general.
Further, 66% of those who responded said that a lack of qualified cyber security professionals is in direct correlation with increased security risks.
Almost the same number of respondents said that they attempted to lean on technology to make up for a lack of personnel.
Risk strategy and IT security director Tim Erlin said:
“Smart organisations need to establish effective programs for educating and developing employee skills around information protection.
“Having the right tools is only part of the solution. A lack of cyber security skills not only degrades an organisation’s ability to respond to incidents, it also inhibits organisations from developing and deploying effective prevention.”
UK businesses are right to be concerned over a potential breach. Cyber threats are constantly looming and possessing the in-house skills is necessary in order to recognise and respond to a breach. That’s why it is so important to consider business protection and make Information security jobs available.
