Professional services firm Procorre has carried out research revealing that increasing online attacks have led directly to more cyber security professionals being hired.
The firm showed that 14% of new tech roles in the UK are in the cyber security field, and that the increased demand has led to higher wages. The report further revealed that 15%of cyber security professionals earn £100,000 or more.
The firm said:
“There is a global shortage of experienced and talented cyber security experts, especially after a recent spate of high-profile attacks that have demonstrated the need for businesses to improve their cyber defences.
“Many of the businesses that have been hacked over the past few years have lost very sensitive information.”
While there are a greater number of opportunities for cyber security pros, the competition is set to increase, with 42 universities now offering degrees in the subject. There are also 700 post-graduate courses available.
The firm went on to say that even if lost data does not put a company at risk of any financial loss, it could still result in customers losing trust in firms that appear to have failed to maintain security of their personal data.
The greater number of cyber security jobs available is great news for cyber professionals, and it is also a smart move for businesses in responding to recent threats. Should the plan work, it will mean fewer breaches and less personal and financial data being lost or intercepted among UK firms.
