The UK’s ongoing commitment to improving cyber security ability continues with an announcement that 42 budding cyber security professionals will be taking part in Cyber Security Challenge UK, staged in London.
Contestants will be attempting to put up a cyber attack defence for a pretend global energy company, with the attacks sourced both internally and externally.
Experts from government agencies and industry experts will be watching the competition with a view to recruiting cyber security talent. This is due to research conducted by ISC, which predicted a shortfall of 1.5mn cyber security employees by the year 2020.
The 2016 event, now in its sixth year, is comprised of 42 contestants, each of whom has had to qualify from various competitions throughout the year.
Cyber Security Challenge UK CEO Stephanie Daman said:
“PwC has created one of the most realistic cyber defence simulations we have ever seen for a Masterclass. This truly mirrors the work that cyber security professionals do in real life and is designed to unearth the exact skills that the industry is looking for in new recruits.”
The Challenge is a fantastic way of evaluating cyber talent. Rather than being judged on something as arbitrary as a multiple-choice test, this more practical examination provided potential employees with a more complete profile of the candidates. Employers up and down the UK should be watching the Challenge with a close eye to gain an idea on how to properly assess candidates for information security recruitment.
