The top coders in the UK are currently batting it out in a competition in Switzerland in a bid to be crowned the winner of the first European Cyber Security Challenge.
The contests see a number of rigorous tests in such areas as digital forensics, network analysis, and cryptography.
The idea was formed as a result of national competitions proving successful, most notably in the UK, where the craze began with the first challenge taking place in 2009.
They enable individuals to improve and showcase their talents, and are considered a potential recruitment source for organisations.
The UK talent, divided into juniors aged between 15 and 20 and seniors from 20 to 30, is going up against teams from Switzerland, Austria, Romania, Spain, and Germany.
Cyber Security Challenge UK CEO Stephanie Daman said:
“Our team is made up of individuals with very different backgrounds, skills and knowledge. This just goes to show that anyone, anywhere could become an expert in cybersecurity, they just need an inquiring mind and the passion to succeed.”
Daman added that the contestants possess phenomenal skills and that the organizers are looking forward to showing off the UK’s cyber talent to Europe.
The government in the UK is not shy when it comes to initiatives designed to improve the cyber talent in the UK, and our team have the chance to perform well at the competition. The contestants may just come back home to offers for a whole host of vacant cyber security jobs.
