Belfast will soon be a cyber security hub for Europe after 80 jobs were revealed in the Northern Irish capital.
The area will be welcoming California-based WhiteHat Security – one of three companies operating in the cyber security field to have chosen to launch a Belfast base in the last 12 months.
The firm will create 50 jobs for security engineers and 20 new positions for software engineers, as well as 10 customer support posts, by the end of 2018.
Jeremiah Grossman, chief executive of WhiteHat, told local media that the high level of technical skill within the country’s workforce prompted the firm to move to the area.
Grossman explained:
“It’s about access to talent, that’s what we are really after. The deciding factor is hiring, training and retaining the best application security people in the world.”
He explained how online security has experienced significant growth and is valued at approximately £51bn across the globe.
The government in the UK has responded to the growth by increasing its goals for exporting online security technology to £2bn by the year 2016.
With cyber security still a key concern for businesses worldwide, online users need to have sufficient know-how on protecting data.
Businesses certainly need to possess sufficient knowledge for dealing with cyber security issues. The smartest employ individuals with the necessary skills to combat all kinds of online attacks. Cyber security jobs should not just be a priority for IT companies, but all SMEs that work with sensitive data and systems.
