Complacency could stand in the way of effective cyber security, according to security vendor Trend Micro.
The firm, publishing its report for the first quarter of 2015, also pointed out that it is an even larger issue now that cyber crime has become more advanced, making security a more difficult task for businesses.
There are more cyber attacks now than there once were, but quantity is not believed to be the only issue. Trend Micro’s head technology officer, Raimund Genes, pointed out the issue of increasingly skilled hackers and sophisticated technology.
The report further emphasised another concerning pattern – the fact that cyber crime is increasing in the healthcare sector and is also targeting more point-of-sale devices in retail.
Genes explained:
“The rise in attacks against the healthcare industry, combined with the rise in malvertisements, reflects that technology users are being assailed from all angles. It is clear businesses and individuals alike need to be proactive in protecting against threats.”
Just when it seemed that UK firms were finally waking up to the issue of cyber crime, such a report highlights the fact that they need to be even more vigilant in light of growing sophistication among hackers.
The only way to thwart such attacks is to carry an equal level of sophistication with regards to in-house skills. That’s why cyber security jobs are more important now than ever, and need to be filled with the talented individuals. Fortunately, they are there to be hired in this growing field.
