The 2016 UK Cyber Security Challenge has welcomed 10 additional finalists after the latest simulated mobile attack occurring in London.
The finalists will be joining the 32 already selected from the 2016 competitions to take part in the November showdown, where the 2016 winner will be crowned.
The National Crime Agency, the Bank of England, GCHQ, and PricewaterhouseCoopers will be hosting the final.
The government-backed challenge is also supported by more than 50 UK academic, private, and public organisations.
The candidates were chosen from a number of UK-wide qualifying rounds, which were assessed by Her Majesty’s Government Communications Centre (HMGCC) and BAE Systems.
Cyber Security Challenge UK CEO Stephanie Daman said that there is an “astounding” calibre of jobs available, adding:
“With so many diverse roles available there is a chance for people to thrive and become hugely successful in the industry.”
She said that the competitions in the challenge offer a very real experience and enable the contenders to get a taste of corporate cyber security in the trenches.
She went on to say:
“The candidates demonstrate their skills to potential employers and take the first steps towards becoming cyber security experts.”
Cyber security is a highly respected role within IT, with governments seemingly determined to ensure that future generations are equipped with the necessary skills to assist businesses in fending off online threats. Those businesses should be taking note, as opening cyber security jobs to such skills could ultimately save their business.
