Ahead of the State of Union address delivered by President Obama on Tuesday January 19th, Jeb Bush made unflattering comments regarding Hilary Clinton’s stance on cyber security.
The ex-governor of Florida and presidential candidate for the Republican party discussed his pans to deal with cyber attacks in an op-ed delivered by Business Insider.
Bush began voicing his plans by attacking Clinton’s policies on cyber crime, writing:
“We can’t trust someone as our next president who didn’t take cyber-security seriously when she was secretary of state.”
An unnamed source from the FBI was quoted by Fox as saying:
“Many previous public corruption cases have been made and successfully prosecuted with much less evidence than what is emerging in this investigation.”
Bush called for improved collaboration between the public and private sectors. He said that the federal government is not solely responsible for cyber security, but that whoever is next elected president should use the various tools at his or her disposal to combat threats from cyber criminals.
He said that if he is sworn in, he would ensure that the private sector receives the most up-to-date data regarding threats, as well as the most effective standards and practices to protect both critical infrastructure and systems, as well as a legal structure to provide improved defence.
Indeed, improved defence is needed in companies all over the world when it comes to cyber security in the current climate. UK firms, certainly, need to be making more cyber security jobs available to improve their personnel in this area.
