HM Government launches website allowing UK teenagers between 14 and 18 to take part in the cyber schools programme. The September term will see the first batch of selected teens in this ground-breaking project delivered with SANS, BT, FutureLearn and Cyber Security Challenge UK.
Students are encouraged to learn online at their own pace through a series of games and challenges designed to help them learn cyber ethics, cryptography, digital forensics, defending web attacks and programming.
The programme will end in a resulting competition between the top students at a 3-day cyber security camp where they will undergo more challenges with the help of top industry talent as mentors.
By the end of the project it is hoped that 5,700 students will have graduated from the programme and gained valuable experience directly applicable to cyber security roles.
£20 million has been set aside for the programme, which is announced alongside a further £500k for bursaries for students looking to study a GCHQ accredited cyber security master’s degree.
