When it comes to fighting cyber attacks, not only do we have to do everything we can individually to ensure that we are safe from hackers, and not only do corporations have to invest in better cyber security measures to keep their customers safe, but the government also has to do its bit to ensure that UK cyberspace is as safe as it is possible to be, both now and in the future.
If we are to make the progress we would like to stamp out future cyber attacks in the vein of the recent TalkTalk hacks, we will need as much help as possible from the government, who are able to implement new laws and initiatives much more effectively than many corporations.
Luckily, the government has already committed to a number of cyber security measures, which should help to improve cyber security and slow down the number of attacks we see in 2016.
For instance, the government has pledged to invest more money in cyber skills, so that companies are able to employ staff who know cyber security inside out, and who are able to implement effective measures against cyber hackers and would-be criminals.
Another important thing that needs to be done is to provide advice to corporations and organisations that operate in cyber space, and this is something that only the government can do to prevent online crime.
The government is also dedicated to coming up with and issuing important guidelines for internet service providers, so that they can use best practices to avoid hacks.
A final thing that only the government can do to fight cyber attacks is put money into more cyber crime units, which are staffed by knowledgeable individuals who are able to not only track down cyber criminals, but also take measures to prevent attacks from happening.
