A team of firms in Exeter have come together to make businesses more aware of what is required to combat cyber crime.
The plan is to establish Exeter as the first UK Cyber City. To celebrate, next month will see a week-long series of events to teach businesses about cyber crime prevention, as well as what to do should they fall victim to an attack. Cyber crime is presently the fastest growing crime in the UK.
Cyber Security Awareness Week, which will begin on Monday 6th February, will include numerous talks, private sessions, and workshops in numerous venues across the city.
The programme will feature sessions on numerous technical solutions, advise on PR recovery, intellectual property, banking and insurance. These sessions will all customised to the requirements of businesses. Delegates will be able to view a live world map showing cyber attacks in progress.
Bluegrass Group will be in charge of the event. David Thomas, chairman of the firm, said that in spite of constant news regarding hacking, he was surprised by the ignorance of many senior managers and other leaders.
He added:
“Exeter, being one of the UK’s most popular and forward-thinking cities, is the perfect place to launch the fightback and we’ve been delighted at how many city businesses have been keen to pitch in with help to get this inaugural event up and running.”
One thing too many businesses are failing to do is to create cyber security jobs. Hopefully, one thing that the week-long event will achieve is to highlight the importance of cyber security recruitment in 2017.
