The Unsung Heroes award winners, which acknowledges the personnel who work in security, as opposed to merely the software programmes they operate, will be named tomorrow, October 4, as part of Security Serious Week.
The annual event, which only began last year, occurs during European Cyber Security Month and will begin with a Department for Media, Culture and Sport conference today. The event will run through to this Friday, October 7.
The week will feature discussion events and webinars. The agenda will include executives from CREST, Publicis Groupe, HSBC, and GlaxoSmithKline. Last year saw 2,500 people take part.
Security Serious Week lead organiser and Eskenzi PR Director, Yvonne Eskenzi, said that cyber security is more important than ever and is crucial to the resiliency and continuity of the UK.
Eskenzi added:
“We want Security Serious Week to not only help make the UK plc more security-savvy, but also to recognise the people who work tirelessly in the background day after day in our critical infrastructure, transport, banks, shops, universities and public services to provide an incredible service to our national safety, yet often go unnoticed.”
It’s about time that cyber pros received the recognition that they deserve. Hackers are usually the ones who make the headlines, but defence staff are those that save the day. That’s why it’s so important for businesses in the UK to make cyber security jobs available to those capable of preventing a breach, which can often be a company disaster.
