'Don't' check emails so often
It allows them freedom to move around and not be stuck in a static office. This in turn helps improve job satisfaction and the quality of work that is produced. However, there are negative aspects of working in this way, according to an expert. Ian Price, author of The Activity Illusion, said: "I think [with] the latest increase in use of smartphones, some people have developed the habit of compulsive email-checking outside of working hours - at the beginning of the day, late at night, on holiday, at weekends - and it becomes quite habit-forming." This can result in people becoming less effective, Mr Price goes on to say, as concentration and focus on work is constantly interrupted. "There is research [by psychologist Richard Balding], who revealed that stress was likely to increase, the more someone checked phones," he added. With tablets fast becoming part of everyday life, Mr Price remains unsure about its impact: "I think it is to do with the increased penetration of smartphones. "As smartphones and BlackBerrys [increase], it seems people develop these habits as soon as they get them." Ready to move on? Click here to see our latest jobs.
