Recycling of electrical goods 'not widely known about in UK'
27/05/2009
Many consumers are unaware of the provision to recycle electrical equipment, an expert has revealed.
Awareness of such recycling facilities could be improved, according to Caroline Laitner, senior consultant at environmental charity Waste Watch.
"A lot of councils do have the facility to recycle electrical equipment, but a lot of the time they are stripped of parts rather than being re-used in their current form," she added.
In addition to environmental benefits, the re-use of electrical items could carry significant implications for those in risk management jobs.
Meanwhile, a new survey from computer firm Dell has uncovered various regional differences when it comes to recycling habits among consumers.
The study found that respondents in Scotland and London care most about the implications of improper technology disposal, while the Welsh were more complacent, or less informed, about how to recycle electronics.
