Mobile phone recycling 'on the up'
26/05/2009
Increasing numbers of Britons are choosing to recycle their old mobile phones, new data suggests.
UK internet searches related to the recycling of old mobiles almost trebled over the past 12 months, according to figures from Hitwise.
Searches for a portfolio of terms that includes 'recycle mobile phones' and 'phone recycling' increased by 189 per cent between the week ending May 17th 2008 and the week ending May 16th this year.
The trend may interest those in risk management jobs who have concerns about information security on mobile devices.
Marshall Lager, senior editor of CRM magazine, this week warned that even encryption may not be enough to protect data in some cases.
He said that the key aspect of information security rests with individual employees in ensuring that they do not reveal their password and login details to unauthorised parties.
