IT security firm combats online fraud

01 October 2008

A leading IT security firm has launched a range of new tools to help counter online fraud.

SecureTrading has announced its new security suite, after what it claims has been a "disappointing lack of action from government, law enforcement agencies, the banking and credit card sectors and some online payment service providers".

According to SC Magazine, its new tools can help to recognise and block attempted fraudulent transactions.

In a move which may aid information security jobs, the SecureTrading Identity Check and SecureTrading Fraud Score will work with existing products to help internet-based merchants to cross-reference buyer information with other databases.

Jon Prideaux, deputy chief executive officer at SecureTrading, told the site: "In this current difficult economic climate the last thing online retailers need is to go to the effort of making a sale only to find that it is charged back as fraud."

The managing director of Get Safe Online, Tony Neate, has warned people that fake internet pop-ups are now "very sophisticated" and it can be difficult to identify what they are and "what they carry".
