Energy efficiency 'important for IT managers'

Energy efficiency is becoming increasingly important for the IT industry in the UK and around the world, according to one expert.
John-Paul Kamath, deputy technology editor for ComputerWeekly.com, has suggested that the issue of sustainability is a significant one for IT managers, whose activities are currently responsible for a considerable proportion of many businesses' carbon output.
A problem for people with data security jobs or those that are responsible for IT recruitment is how to measure the effectiveness of any 'green' policies they implement, Mr Kamath has indicated.
"I certainly think there's a need for more information and guidance for the IT manager, so that they can better understand how they can become energy efficient, and how they measure that energy efficiency," he said.
Earlier this month, IBM's climate change chairman called for binding targets to encourage businesses around the world to make "significant" investments into improving their environmental credentials.
