Unsafe browsers to be banned by PayPal

PayPal has said that letting internet users view its site on browsers that do not have anti-phishing protection is like "a car manufacturer allowing drivers to buy one of their vehicles without seatbelts".
The online payments service cannot afford to continue allowing internet payments to take place via these browsers, according to the white paper it has published.
Although it was not mentioned in the document, this includes Safari, reports MacUser.
In the publication , PayPal's chief information security officer Michael Barrett said: "We argue that it's critical to not only warn users about unsafe browsers, but also to disallow older and insecure browsers."
He went on to say that PayPal will begin by warning consumers about unsafe browsers, before going on to ban those that are the biggest liability.
The news follows reports earlier this month that mobile phone scams such as SMishing are taking place more frequently.
Get Safe Online highlighted that SMishing follows the same principle as phishing, where users are encouraged to handover security information following a spam email saying that they have subscribed to a particular non-existent service.
