It is proving difficult for IT professionals at UK companies to meet regulatory compliance requirements for security, according to a new study.
Research carried out by IT services provider Shavlik Technologies at the RSA Conference 2008 and Infosecurity Europe 2008 conferences found that 40 per cent of IT and security specialists surveyed are unsatisfied with their current technology solution.
Mark Shavlik, chief executive of Shavlik Technologies, said that organisations are struggling to manage their security and compliance needs which leaves them open to malware attacks.
"Despite efforts to apply various technologies, companies continue to struggle with efforts to manage and close vulnerability gaps, while concerns over regulatory compliance are driving them to look for more ways to simplify through automation," he added.
Last week, a study by IT security provider McAfee found that cybercriminals are developing unique threats by using languages other than English and exploiting locally popular applications.
Jeff Green, senior vice president at McAfee Avert Labs, added that hackers have become adept at learning the nuances of the local regions and creating malware specific to each country.
