Fears for information security have been raised after experts uncovered a website selling stolen credit card data to fraudsters.

Criminal site SellCVV2, which appears to use Google's Blogspot service to reveal large volumes of credit card data, has been exposed by staff at security firm Finjan.

Prices for card details vary according to the type of account, whether the card is a Classic Visa or Mastercard and its country of origin.

"Customers are being offered trial set of data, as well as a guarantee on account details that do not work," explained Yuval Ben-Itzhak, chief information officer at Finjan.

On average, prices range from $38 (£19) per set of card data for premium card accounts in small volumes, going down to $10 (£5) for classic card data in volumes of 100 or more, he continued.

Mr Yuval Ben-Itzhak was not hopeful that the problems surrounding stolen card details can be solved.

"As long as there are people willing to pay for this data, there will be people out there who will use their skills to steal it. That's the basics of economics, so I don't see any way that it's going to stop," he said.
