Hackers have stolen business and personal data from companies all over the world and are currently storing it all on one server, according to new research.

A study conducted by IT security provider Finjan found that the compromised data is made up of 5,388 unique log files from businesses in, among other countries, the US, UK, France and Germany and contains more than 1.4 gigabytes of information.

This includes data from patients of healthcare providers, bank customer data, business-related emails and Outlook accounts, according to the firm.

Yuval Ben-Itzhak, chief technical officer of Finjan, said: "This report provides a unique example of the type and amount of data today's cybercriminals are collecting.

"Large amounts of data on a server that hackers can easily manage and control shows the rapid evolution of cybercrime."

This news follows reports last week by IT security provider Trend Micro that Google users are being targeted by hackers making use of a new type of phishing attack.
