Online consumers 'must be vigilant'

Internet users have been urged to protect their online privacy as much as possible, rather than rely solely upon corporations or governments to take responsibility.
Tim Gibbon, co-founder and editor of media watchdog the Social Media Portal (SMP), said that there is always risk involved when information is entered online.
"We need to take sensible precautions on any website, whether it is social networking-oriented or not," he added.
"Ultimately, users need to be vigilant and protect their online privacy as much as they are able."
Mr Gibbon went on to say that as the number of people using social networks increases, he expects to see a surge in the number of fraudsters looking to take advantage of this trend.
Last week internet security adviser Experian commented that online consumers need to identify credit fraud as swiftly as possible to avoid thieves taking out loans and credit cards in the victim's name.
