IT security giant McAfee has announced the release of new integrated software allowing PC and laptop users access to fully encrypted disks.
The initiative is in collaboration with digital security firm Gemalto and is an attempt to prevent organisations and individual consumers losing money as a result of security breaches.
Jerome Denis, Identity and Access Management director at Gemalto said that the new technology will make it straightforward to access the highest levels of data security.
"Full disk encryption that requires authentication with an external intelligent device before even loading the operating system is an extremely secure solution," he added.
Last week, media watchdog the Social Media Portal (SMP) stated that internet users should protect their online privacy as much as possible, rather than rely solely upon corporations or governments to take responsibility.
Tim Gibbon, co-founder and editor of SMP, added that risk is always involved when information is entered online.
