Laptop data loss 'could be a threat'

Following a spate of incidents where laptops containing personal information have either gone missing or been stolen, one expert has suggested that firms need to manage their employees better.
Speaking to the Irish Independent, Eoin Goulding, managing director of Integrity Solutions, said that in most cases, people do not report that they have lost a laptop or phone.
This may be because replacement devices can be inexpensive and many companies are unaware of exactly how many devices they actually have, the expert suggested.
"The first thing we recommend companies do is an audit of what they have in terms of laptops and smart phones and put in risk management policies," Mr Goulding commented.
Companies ought to inform employees of what they can and cannot keep on their laptops, while others set rules about using USB keys, he added.
A recent survey conducted by the Information Commissioner's Office revealed that 72 per cent of people claim to feel "powerless" about how their personal information is kept.
