Government orders new disk encryption solution

Following a string of high-profile government data breaches, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has invested in BeCrypt disk encryption software, in an attempt to protect sensitive information stored on RAF, army and navy laptops.
BeCrypt, developer of data protection and encryption products, will provide the MoD with its Disk Protect Baseline technology for 20,000 laptops. The application allows data to be securely protected and will be deployed across all non-Defence Information Infrastructure laptops.
Richard Brookes, European director of sales at BeCrypt, said: "BeCrypt's encryption solutions support the need to enable mobile working, yet provide proven and verified protection of classified data outside of secured government buildings.
"They are straightforward and fast to deploy, essential when security is of the highest importance," he added, noting that Disk Protect Baseline was designed to meet the strictest security standards of both government and commercial organisations.
According to a recent study by the Ponemon Institute, 60 per cent of UK IT organisations have suffered at least one data breach in the last 12 months, but those with an enterprise-wide encryption policy have generally suffered fewer successful attacks.
