Encryption strategy 'offers better IT security'

Businesses making use of encryption strategy can limit the damage caused by data breaches.
A recent study by the Ponemon Institute of nearly 650 UK-based IT and business managers, analysts and executives found that 60 per cent of organisations surveyed suffered at least one data breach over the last 12 months but those with a more strategic, enterprise-wide approach to encryption suffered fewer successful attacks.
Dr Larry Ponemon, chairman and founder of The Ponemon Institute, said: "With more organisations experiencing data breaches, those who deploy a strategic encryption solution, reduce their risk."
He added that companies are spending more of their encryption budgets on key management and are looking for more complete solutions from a single vendor instead of point products.
The news follows reports last week that websites, including those run by the UK government and the UN, have been breached by hackers in a second wave of attacks related to similar hacks earlier this year, which used Javascript to load infected files.
