'Criminals out-pace businesses on IT security'

The security of business enterprises is at risk due to the innovate abilities of criminals, top information security technologists have warned.
IT Week reports that several experts have made a "bleak prognosis" about the future of data security due to the rapid pace at which new threats emerge compared to the time taken by businesses and organisations to respond.
Criminals "haven't got business processes holding them back; they're free to innovate," explained Dan Hubbard, vice president of security research at Websense.
Mark Bregman, chief technology officer at Symantec, warned that the speed at which employees can adopt new secure working practices is limited with many enterprises finding they are "about at that limit now".
The comments follow the claim by IT Governance that employees are evading information security measures in order to do their jobs.
A survey conducted by the company revealed that managers are failing to understand the correct balance between the confidentiality and availability of information as 68 per cent of employees questioned said they bypass security controls to do their work.
