Identity and access management 'key area for information security staff'
03/03/2010
Information security professionals will be increasingly looking at worldwide identity and access management, an organisation has claimed.
Figures published by Gartner have shown that this market will expand by eight per cent in the next 12 months, reaching $9.9 billion (£6.57 billion) by the end of the year.
Ruggero Contu, principal research analyst at Gartner, claimed that the downturn has affected the information security market but that it is still receiving prioritisation compared to other sectors.
He said: "[This] technology is a critical component of enterprises' security strategies, and Gartner clients have indicated that approximately eight per cent of their security budgets are dedicated to [it]."
Mr Contu suggested that a hierarchy of identity-and-access-management-as-a-service functionality will be developed that accommodates both the scale and delivery needs of these services.
Earlier this month, Panda Security reported that criminal IT breaches are becoming increasingly sophisticated, highlighting the importance of hiring information security staff.
