Businesses don't realise importance of IT security
28/06/2010
Businesses in the UK don't fully understand the vital importance of IT security, it has been claimed.
According to a new poll conducted by Freeform Dynamics on behalf of IT research firm Trend Micro, almost two thirds of the 294 IT professionals questioned thought business stakeholders do not appreciate certain aspects of IT security.
This is in contrast to the less than five per cent of people who thought stakeholders were well aware of the importance of IT security, reports the Register.
Moreover, about a third of respondents claimed that IT security was underfunded and a similar amount felt that stakeholders do not care about the issue enough to take drastic action, the news provider reports.
Almost half felt that IT departments got the blame for IT security issues, even if they had previously highlighted them as a potential problem.
Last week, Trend Micro noted that the IT security sector is set to undergo a dramatic change as a result of the growing popularity of cloud computing.
