Fear 'preventing' small businesses from adopting VoIP
06 October 2008
Small businesses often fear switching to voice-over internet protocol (VoIP) technology as they do not realise how it works, Technology Means Business has claimed.
Dr Adam Le Gresley, head of operations at the firm, suggests that a lack of understanding over the workings of the communication technology means many consumers ignore its potential for cost savings.
He explained that small business owners are "quite scared" about how they would go about installing and maintaining VoIP technology, adding that they "have to realise there is very good customer support from voice-over-internet providers."
Those working in IT sales jobs and IT marketing jobs may find that they can push the technology among consumers by clearly outlining its benefits and demonstrating how it works.
ComputerWeekly.com, defines VoIP as a way of making telephone calls over the internet, which may be free or cheaper than ordinary phone calls.
The web portal suggests that there may eventually be no distinction between the internet and the telephone system.
