Social media 'important for IT marketing'
21/07/2010
Social media is "phenomenally" important to a business because using the tool for IT marketing engages with the customer, it has been suggested.
IT marketing through social media forges a relationship with a customer or consumer in a way that push media does not, according to Tristan Garrick, PR manager for the Direct Marketing Association.
Those working in IT marketing and sales might be interested to know that social media provides consumers with a "great opportunity" to "take the brand in their own hands, pick it apart, play around with it and actually form a closer relationship for pulling information out rather than having information pushed to them", he said.
His comments come in the wake of a recent survey by software security company Clearswift which found that more than 90 per cent of companies believe Web 2.0 technologies, such as Facebook, play a significant role in increasing brand awareness.
Some 89 per cent think the tools are essential for IT marketing as they help generate new business and support customer service.
