Wireless networks 'must be secured but also accessible'
18/05/2010
Wireless networks need to be secured so they provide adequate information security but they need to remain accessible, it has been claimed.
Simon Pamplin, systems engineer pre-sales manager for the UK and Ireland for Brocade, a leading industry supplier of high performance and reliable networking solutions, said: "You've got to make ease of access to the right people as seamless as possible."
His comments were made after it transpired that Google experienced a foul-up in Germany when its Google StreetView cars began accidentally collecting data from unsecured Wi-Fi networks automatically.
Anyone working in a role assessing network security should "be able to control known threats and unknown threats", Mr Pamplin said.
This is in order to improve both network and information security for firms.
People need to "provide remote capabilities and secure them in the same way, as though users were connected to a secure network within their own controlled campus", he added.
