Expanding wireless IT 'raises security concerns'
25/02/2010
Information security is a growing issue for businesses adopting increasingly complex wireless services, it has been suggested.
As company reliance on wireless and other sophisticated mobile device technologies grows, many are falling short on network security, governance and compliance, according to Gartner.
Firms have been urged by the analysis firm to look across its IT network for its wireless policy, considering how it impacts various areas including security, servers, messaging and application development.
Research vice-president at Gartner Phil Redman explained: "A good method to ensure a strong policy is to incorporate a centralised team across IT that will be impacted by mobile and wireless decisions.
"This team can strategise for the strongest and widest policy."
The announcement comes ahead of the Gartner Master Data Management Summit 2010, which will highlight key trends and identify business best practice with regards to selecting solutions providers and making use of software tools.
