European companies 'slow on identity management uptake'
18/05/2010
European businesses are failing to adopt identity and access (IAM) management tools, which could strengthen their information security, a new report has found.
According to analyst firm Forrester Research, despite companies considering identity management to be high up on their agenda, 85 per cent of the firms surveyed are spending more on information and network security measures rather than using IAM tools, reports V3.
There is a lot of talk surrounding the importance of prioritising IAM over the next few years, yet the number of companies "that have already implemented these technologies or have any concrete plans to do so in the future is distinctly underwhelming", wrote Forrester analysts, Bill Nagel and Andras Cser.
In another article for the website, Redstone Managed Solutions' head of IT security Martin Blackhurst said over the next few years, the role of IT security will change.
A next-generation view of information security will need to be adopted by firms in order for them to improve their data protection and reduce risks posed by network security breaches, he said.
