30/06/2009
Professionals in IT marketing jobs will be interested to see the latest figures concerning the UK advertising industry, which show the sector experienced a four per cent decline in 2008.
Total advertising expenditure in the UK fell to £18.6 billion last year, according to the Advertising Association's Advertising Statistics Yearbook 2009.
Interestingly, the only channels achieving growth were the internet and, to a lesser extent, the cinema.
Online ad spend is said to have increased by 19.1 per cent, while the cinema recorded growth of one per cent.
The internet is said to have been the third-largest medium for UK advertising during 2008, behind the press and television.
People in IT marketing jobs might have been boosted by recent comments from research firm Gartner, suggesting that the PC market may already have reached the bottom of its cycle.
The company suggested that the electronics market could be set for a "sustained recovery" from the second half of next year.
